Deputy Secretary-General's Letter

Deputy Secretary General

“We didn't start the fire - it was always burning since the world's been turning.” - Billy Joel

The greatest tragedy of human life is in all our years of existence; we have still failed to understand the world in its entirety. One of the greatest mysteries still remains to be our conquest for peace. Throughout centuries, battles have been fought over land, money and material power. And this canvas has been pervaded by Human ego-the driver of War and conflict throughout aeons.

Do not be mistaken: A MUN Conference commands much more than an academic simulation of heated discussions. It remains,at our scholarly level, a credible initiative to understand the ego-shrouded Hu-MUN Nature (pun intended). So far, MUNs are how we may even dare to inspect and investigate into our evolutionary burden of incessant conquest. To witness the pinnacle of human intellect in research and delivery, and the nuances of the human mind in lobbying, paperwork and leadership, is a privilege that we, as the Deputy Secretary Generals of X-MUN 2026 look forward to with great anticipation.

2026 has been especially concerning for humanity- from the start of the year itself, the geopolitical landscape of the globe has been dominated by unrest and disagreement. There is no denying that we are entering troubling times-unless, the delegate within us learns to embody the change we want to see in our reality. For MUN, at its finest, was never intended to be an exercise in performative outrage punctuated by dramatic Points of Order and delegates discovering international law fifteen minutes before committee begins. Perhaps now more than ever, MUN Conferences have gone from being “Model” to “Meaningful”; transformed from a mere simulation to an enriching and academic discourse for holistic development in the world we are about to inherit.

2026 has perhaps been that jagged rock that dreadfully juts out of an already rocky valley, having witnessed, almost in every month, conflict and unrest at the Global scale. Humanity seems to be entering into concerning times when larger forces consume the fabric of our world.

The saving grace, delegates, is you. The light at the end of the long, bleak tunnel. It is you, and we, the leaders of tomorrow; the changemakers of the future, who must now engage and learn skills of the real world, that no studied Pedagogy contains. A MUN remains a Model no longer- it is the need of the hour; a duty, for a liveable world, that shall be inherited by us.

Here's to an excellent X-MUN: Legatum Renatus that is sure to leave us all enriched, fulfilled and renewed, as the Leaders of Tomorrow.

Until June,

Debayan Pathak and Abhirup Sen,
Deputy Secretary Generals,
X-MUN 2026
